The Rev. Dr. Becca Edwards is the United Methodist Climate and Energy Fellow working with the General Board of Church and Society. She is responsible for federal legislative and policy advocacy in support of climate and energy policy. She also serves as an observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations as part of the GBCS delegation.
Becca is a Provisional Deacon in the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. She is a member at First United Methodist Church of Austin, Texas. Becca also serves as Climate Action Fellow at Texas Impact, managing the state level climate and energy portfolio.
“Climate justice requires coordination among all levels of government and my unique role gives me a holistic understanding of climate and energy policy, from the state to the international level,” Becca said. “Texas energy policy affects the commitments the United States can make at the international level, for instance.”
Before seminary, Becca served for ten years as a visiting professor of Physics and Environmental Studies at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she taught climate science, energy, and earth science courses.
“Some people feel there is a conflict between Christian faith and science,” Becca said. “But science is a tool that helps us to better understand how our world works. In that way, science allows us to better live out our call to love our neighbors.”
Becca earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Wind Science and Engineering from Texas Tech University and completed an M.Div. from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2023.
