Tell Congress to Prioritize SNAP in 2024 Farm Bill Reauthorization

Contact your Representatives today to advocate for access to nutrition through protection of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

As United Methodists, we are called to care for the most vulnerable in our society. Hunger cannot be dissociated from people and systems that keep people in poverty (Book of Resolutions #4051). As I shared in my letter earlier this month to those following the EHG portfolio, the fight continues for protecting and strengthening the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) within the 2024 Farm Bill reauthorization.

The House Agriculture Committee has approved a 5-year Farm Bill (H.R. 8467) that proposes a nearly $30 billion cut to SNAP. This bill would also keep the Thrifty Food Plan, a tool developed by the USDA to estimate the cost of a healthy diet, cost neutral. The current proposal poses a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of the more than 41.4 million people who rely on SNAP.

We must urge the U.S. Congress to prioritize people and protect critical anti-poverty programs. Use the form below to contact your Representatives today to advocate for access to nutrition through protection of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
