General Secretary Announces Staff Change

Leaves Civil and Human Rights Director position to be filled.


The General Secretary of the General Board of Church and Society of The United Methodist Church announced today that Mr. Bill Mefford, Director of Human and Civil Rights is leaving after 9 years with the agency.

“Mr. Mefford has been a tireless voice for justice and peace,” said The Reverend Susan Henry-Crowe, General Secretary. GBCS and I wish to thank him for his years of service. I know he will continue being an advocate for justice in the years to come.”

Promoting Civil and Human Rights is integral to the mission of GBCS and The United Methodist Church. Mr. John Hill, Assistant General Secretary for Advocacy and Organizing will serve as Acting Director until the position is filled. The position of Director of Civil and Human Rights will be posted in the coming days.
