Social-justice agency board approves $100,000 in grants

Twenty-seven ministries will receive funds to address justice issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism.


Twenty-seven United Methodist ministries across the connection will receive Just and Resilient Communities Grants to address structural inequities of the public health, economic, and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism.

The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) is awarding $100,000 in grants to United Methodists building more just and resilient communities.

Projects will address reimagining policing in local communities, advocacy for immigrants’ rights, and education and advocacy for racial justice.

Grantees represent all five U.S. jurisdictions and Central Conferences in Africa and the Philippines. Recipients include two in the Northeast Jurisdiction, 11 in the Southeast Jurisdiction, three in South Central Jurisdiction, four in the North Central Jurisdiction, and two in the Western Jurisdiction. Five projects are from the Central Conferences, including Central Congo, East Congo, Liberia, Nigeria and the Philippines.

Grant were awarded by the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee authorized the funds at a May 27 meeting.
