ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to Stop War With Iran

Congress has failed to rein in the President's ability to wage war on Iran, which has already killed more than 1,200 civilians. We must stand against one more dollar for wars abroad.

Already, the Trump administration is planning to request billions of dollars in supplemental funding for the war with Iran. Approving the supplemental funding request would in effect approve the continuation of this illegal war of choice.

As we know from current history of the United States, going to war throughout the world, including in Afghanistan and Iraq, does not bring peace or stability, nor lead to non-proliferation of weapons or protect human rights or democracy. This war must stop immediately.

As United Methodists, we are called to embrace a theology of peace and abundance that prioritizes the needs of communities over weapons and war. While Congress has cut healthcare and food assistance for millions of people in need, it also approved a total military budget of more than $1 trillion and we expect the administration to request $500 billion more for this year. We should not invest billions in more war.

“We reject the use of war as an instrument of foreign policy and insist that every peaceful and diplomatic means of resolution be exhausted before the start of armed conflicts” (United Methodist Social Principles, Political Community, Government Responsibilities, F., War and Military Service).

We as people of faith call on Congress to take action to immediately end this war and oppose further military funding. You can take action below to email your Representative and Senators.
