Take Action: Urge Your Representative to Support Peace in Korea
The bill calls for urgent diplomacy in pursuit of a binding peace agreement to formally end the Korean War, a review of the travel restrictions to North Korea, and establishment of liaison offices in the U.S. and North Korea.

We have an opportunity under the Trump administration to forge a more peaceful U.S.—North Korea relationship. And we can do this by putting pressure on our members of Congress to support the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act.
H.R.1841, the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act, has been re-introduced by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.). The bill calls for serious, urgent diplomacy in pursuit of a binding peace agreement to formally end the Korean War, a review of the travel restrictions to North Korea, and establishment of liaison offices in the U.S. and North Korea.
The Korean War has been ongoing for more than 70 years. This unresolved state of war is the underlying root cause of security tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Decades of pressure, sanctions, military threats, and isolation have failed to achieve peace and security, and it is clear we must try a different approach. Putting peace at the beginning of the process has more potential to lower tensions and pave the way toward peace and denuclearization.
The United Methodist Church has stood with the people of Korea calling for peace, democracy, and reconciliation. “All members of the body of Christ have a responsibility to support the Korean people in their attempts to build democracy, reduce tension, create trust on the Korean Peninsula, heal the divisions, and reunite their country. The threat to peace remains critical with the world’s fifth and sixth largest armies facing each other across the Demilitarized Zone” (2020/2024 Book of Resolutions #4112: Korea Peace, Justice, and Reunification).
