Tell Congress to Support Legislative Protection of Reproductive Health.
The United Methodist Church affirms the sacred worth of all people and advocates for policies that foster abundant, healthy life for all. The United States Supreme Court ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization repealed the constitutional right to access reproductive healthcare and has created an inequitable landscape for care across communities.
Our Social Principles share that, “We recognize tragic conflicts of life with life that may justify abortion, and in such cases, we support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures by certified medical providers.” (Social Principles ¶ 161. K)
Denying access to reproductive healthcare compounds the maternal health crisis in the United States and exacerbates health disparities among Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income communities. Now, more than ever, we must commit to protecting the right to accessible and comprehensive care with urgency and persistence.
Contact your members of Congress today and ask them to support legislative protection of reproductive health.
While President Biden’s Executive Order is helpful in safeguarding access and privacy for patients and providers, only legislative action by the U.S. Congress can restore fully the rights repealed by the Supreme Court decision.
As people of faith, our prayerful response to such injustice must continue to be a collective witness that centers on the value and dignity of every mother, child, and family. We must advocate for the right to accessible and comprehensive reproductive health care.
