Youth visit Congress to advocate for DREAM Act

The youth fellowship from Marrow United Methodist Church in Maplewood, N.J. joined hundreds of people of faith advocating for a clean DREAM Act last month. Each day, more than 120 Dreamers lose their status.

At the end of November, the Morrow Youth Fellowship from Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church in Maplewood, New Jersey, traveled to Washington, D.C. to join hundreds of people of faith in advocating for a clean Dream Act.

The senior high youth group met with members of Congress from New Jersey, including Reps. Donald Payne Jr. and Rodney Frelinghuysen, and Sens. Cory Booker and Robert Menendez.

After their visits the young people said it was an incredible experience to share their stories and put their faith into action by advocating for immigrant justice.

They made a video about their trip.

Before coming to DC, the youth have been part of Morrow Church’s ministries with refugees and immigrants. They have become increasingly aware of the challenges facing DREAMers in their community. They hope that other youth groups and their congregations will also encourage their representatives to support a clean DREAM Act.

Today, more than one month after Morrow Youth Fellowship visited D.C., we are still waiting for Congress to act. And time is running out.

Each day, more than 120 Dreamers their status every day. We cannot wait any longer. We need a DREAM Act.

Join the Morrow Youth Fellowship, and Church and Society in demanding Congress pass a clean Dream Act now.
