faith in action

Twenty spaces left for Young Clergy Leadership Forum in January

The forum focuses on putting our faith into practice by engaging the world through social action. More than 700 young clergy have participated in the yearly forum over the previous 15 years.

Church and Society will sponsor a forum for young United Methodist clergy Jan. 28-31, 2018.

This year’s Young Clergy Leadership Forum will include dialogue sessions with U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black and Shane Claiborne from Red Letter Christians. There will also be a session guided by the Rev. David Billings, author of the award-winning book, “Deep Denial: The Persistence of White Supremacy in United States History and Life.”

The young clergy will also spend time with Church and Society’s general secretary, the Rev. Dr. Susan T. Henry-Crowe, and several other Church and Society staff as they consider the critical role the church can play to help build peace and establish justice in a broken and struggling world.

There is space for 50, but 30 people have already registered.

“This is by far the earliest we have reached the two-thirds point in young clergy registration,” said the Rev. Neal Christie, assistant general secretary for education and leadership formation. “Typically, we reach this point in mid-December. It is a testimony to the value participants and conferences see in this particular event.”

Those chosen to participate have a unique opportunity to learn with other young clergy from many parts of the world.

Each conference can send up to two young clergy in a given year. To avoid confusion, each participant should register with the approval of the conference’s director of connectional ministry.
