faith in action

A profile of a peace with justice coordinator

Church and Society staff recently asked Alma Manney, a peace with justice coordinator from the Florida Annual Conference, about her faith and work for peace and justice.

How does your faith influence your work for peace and justice?

Enables me to maintain my covenant with God. It takes prayer, study, giving, receiving, hope, perseverance and action which makes it real and holistic. It helps me to make a lasting difference while working toward justice.

What does peace with justice mean to you?

Partnering with God for transformation. Completeness. Solving root of problem/issue by empowering others, walking with them. It eliminates cause of injustice.

What issues are most important to you? Why?

Peacemaking at all levels, human rights, environment, racial and economic justice because I believe our relationship with God, each other and all of creation are interrelated and key to establishing peace with justice.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about the work you do? Why?

When you solve the root cause of injustice by working with those affected by it, you empower all to reach their God-given potential because together we can achieve the Kin-dom of God on earth. Peace is never achieved without justice for all.
