Church and Society to co-sponsor Ecumenical Advocacy Days

Several United Methodist-related organizations, including Church and Society, are among the sponsor and partner organizations for this year's Ecumenical Advocacy Days, April 20-23 in Washington, D.C.

Church and Society exists to help United Methodists put our faith into action, through pursuing peace and seeking justice. We don’t do this work because it is good (though, it is) or easy (because it’s not). We do this work because of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We cannot live out the Christian command to love our neighbors without also seeking to ensure that laws and systems that affect our neighbors (and us) are just.

This understanding of the gospel is not uniquely United Methodist. Christians around the world work for justice every day.

An ecumenical group of justice-seeking Christians comes together each year to worship, study scripture, and to advocate for justice in American domestic and international policy.

Ecumenical Advocacy Days began in 2003 and each year brings together about 1,000 Christians from a variety of traditions. Several United Methodist-related organizations, including Church and Society, are among the sponsor and partner organizations.

This year’s Ecumenical Advocacy Days will be held April 20-23 in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme is A World Uprooted: Responding to Migrants, Refugees and Displaced People.

From their website:

Ecumenical Advocacy Days 2018 will focus on the uprootedness of our world. We will analyze current policy and envision ways to more fully and justly respond to the global and local needs of displaced communities. Through prayer, worship, advocacy training, and networking, we will seek policy changes that advance hope and overcome the devastating impacts of conflict, climate change and corruption on God’s people.
